At Michigan State University, student-parents galvanized in response to their unique academic and support needs. They formed Student Parents on a Mission with the assistance of the school’s Family Resource Center in 1994. Today, they offer monthly meetings, activities for parents and children, and scholarship to student parents.
If you’re in school and struggling to find the support you need, consider forming your own student-led organization to connect with other single parents.
If you’re thinking of returning to school, don’t let your parenting responsibilities deter you! MSU is just one of many universities with resources already in place to assist you in your academic pursuits.
When choosing colleges at which to apply, look first for their family-friendliness. Seek out the institutions with organizations already established to offer you the support you need.
